Our Vision
To connect citizens and visitors to Lumberton's past, with historical and educational exhibits, showing how Lumberton came to be.
The Museum's History
In 2019, a group of Lumberton citizens formed a non-profit organization to explore the concept of a museum to preserve the history of our community. The committee gathered ideas and started searching for a place for the museum.
In 2023, the City of Lumberton began developing a new Multi-Purpose Center to be built next to City Hall.
In April 2025, the Lumberton Historical Museum signed a lease with the City of Lumberton to rent space in the new building.
August 2026 marked the opening of the Lumberton Historical Museum, with free admission and operating expenses funded by donations, grants and supporting members of Friends of the Museum.
